“Defend the Cause of the Fatherless”- Isaiah 1:17
Across the globe, believers are joining together to respond to the call of Isaiah 1:17.
In previous years, we have seen an unprecedented joining together of believers across denominational lines to address the orphan crisis on Orphan Sunday. Dramatic changes are being made across the globe. It all starts with prayer as people catch God’s vision for these precious children.
Will you join believers worldwide on Orphan Sunday?
How does it work?
You can do whatever you want! Orphan Sunday is your opportunity to rouse church, community and friends to God’s call to care for the orphan.
Contact your church to host an Orphan Sunday event, have a prayer gathering, teach a Sunday School class on God’s heart for the orphan. The possibilities are endless…
The generous Orphan Sunday staff has prepared a countless number of resources ready for you to use for your event, including a beautiful letterhead you can use to prepare a letter to send to your church staff telling them about Orphan Sunday!
What can I do?
Get your kids involved in praying for orphans- Print off this special Prayer Bookmark to help guide your kids into prayer for orphans around the world every day!
Get your children's ministry involved - Children love to feel like they have helped in some way! An easy way to let children get involved is to have the parents buy the child a Mini M&M's Candy tube. After they eat the candy they collect quarters in the tubes (they are just big enough to fit quarters) and then have a collection day. You can then send the money collected to a favorite orphan care organization (like us!). This is super fun for the kids and then they feel like they have made a difference!
Another fun idea is to have the kids make Prayer Bracelets for Orphans. This special gift will be a reminder to orphans around the world that they are loved. Every time they wear their bracelet, they will know that someone in the U.S. is thinking of them and praying for them.
Pray - this is a fantastic way to implement Orphan Sunday in to your worship time at church. With over 151 million orphans throughout the world, we can't pray enough for these children! There are over 500,000 children in the U.S. Foster Care System alone! Take 5-10 minutes during your regular service or worship time to pray silently for children without families here and throughout the world. You can also sign up to get prayer requests and praises for orphans. Visit our Prayer page.
Special Prayer for children in crisis - Just in Nepal alone, there are millions of children at risk for unimaginable terror. Since the earthquake in the spring, millions of children have been displaced and orphaned making them vulnerable to human sex trafficking and other crisis. There are wonderful groups and individuals on the ground doing their part in making these terrors less of a reality, but much is still left to be done. Gather a group of people together with a common vision - to see these children reunited with their families or placed in forever loving families. A call to prayer of sorts. "For where two or three gather in My name, there I am with them." -Matthew 18:20
Show a video - Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) has put together several great videos about Orphan Sunday and ways people around the world are getting involved. Click here and browse through the videos and pick one or two that you think would resonate with your congregation.
