This spring, the very first Foster Care Month event took place in Ghana! It gave fostered children the opportunity to share their story and encouraged local families to adopt and care for orphaned children and at-risk children. The head of the Family Welfare Unit within the Department of Social Development was involved and declared that all children have to right to a life free from violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect.
Beginning with a march through the streets, the event culminated in a huge Fun Fair. The kids had a great time playing, and families were given resources such as food, clothing, and school supplies.
Your support made it possible for over 3,200 people, including 530 orphans, to participate. Steps are being taken right now to lobby the government to officialy recognize March as Foster Care Awareness Month, and to mobilize educational scholarships, health and basic needs for orphans and children at risk. Thank you for your part in helping orphans in Ghana!
