Today Ukraine’s capital city of Kiev faces an urgent need. Nearly 70% of families and children in the city are without electricity—enduring below freezing temperatures in total darkness—with no certainty of when power will return. In the US, people can relate as they are presently dealing with extreme cold and storms across the country.
But the situation in Ukraine is much bleaker. As Russia continues to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, widespread blackouts have left entire communities without electricity, heat, and even running water. In below freezing conditions, this is not simply about discomfort. For the vulnerable children and families AFFEO serves—many recently displaced—prolonged exposure to cold, darkness, and isolation is life-threatening.
Please join us in praying for this urgent need to care for the most vulnerable in Ukraine! Our AFFEO partners on the ground in Ukraine are responding right now, visiting families in need and opening their churches and facilities as places of refuge — pooling generators, fuel, and food to keep children safe and families together.
But the need is escalating faster than available resources. Please pray that God would supply the funds necessary to keep Ukrainian families safe and protected from life-threatening conditions during this crisis!
As you read this, children are sleeping in unheated homes and vulnerable families are searching for safe shelter and facing impossible decisions to keep their children safe.
Ask the Lord to provide what is needed for our partners to:
- Keep emergency shelters operational
- Power generators that support heating and basic medical needs
- Provide food, clean water, blankets, and wood to families so children remain in their care
Thank you for remembering the Ukrainian children and families in desperate need of help during these dark and cold days! May the Lord richly bless you.
