The state of institutional orphan care in Ukraine is gut-wrenching. It wasn’t great before the war, but it has become much worse since then. The records detailing which kids are adoptable are jumbled; in general, it seems that no one really knows! Parents who are willing to open their homes to orphaned little ones often don’t know where to begin.
But an AFFEO partner is striving to change all that! Fueled by the generosity of AFFEO supporters and armed with a video camera as well as a huge amount of determination, Leonid is spearheading the Change One Life project. For several years now, Leonid has traveled from institution to institution, working with administrators to get things straight. His goal? To make careful records of what children are in each institution, if they are free to be adopted, or if they might have living parents with whom they can reconnect.
However, Leonid has found that getting things squared away in databases isn’t enough. That’s why, thanks to AFFEO support, Leonid makes compelling, heart-touching videos of each adoptable child, showing them at play and introducing themselves. This kind of video (often shared through churches) greatly increases a child’s chances of being adopted.
As far as we know, Leonid is the only person in all of Ukraine doing this type of work. That’s why your prayers are so crucial in driving this success. Won’t you join us in praying that God would provide a loving family for each child waiting for a forever home?
