Hope Sprouts in Ukraine!

This past spring, because of your prayers and generosity, 5,000 vulnerable families in Ukraine received seed boxes to start their own sustainable gardens!

Hundreds of church members and volunteers came together to prep and pack the boxes — each one filled with 20 types of vegetable and herb seeds plus a few flower seeds to bring joy during a very difficult time. Something as simple as seeds give needy families a way to start a garden that will feed their children and sustain them through uncertain times. AFFEO partner, Andriy, aptly said, “We deliver more hope than seeds.”

Five of our AFFEO partners hand-delivered the seed boxes to families in 23 villages across seven regions of eastern Ukraine. These villages are de-occupied and are areas  where families have fled for safety. Seed box recipients were families on the frontlines, those recently displaced, newly widowed, large foster and adoptive families, military families and those raising children with disabilities.

In the words of Myla, a mother impacted by these seeds, “I believe that if the Lord gave me these seeds through your hands, He will also give me the strength to plant them, care for them, and gather the harvest. It means that autumn will come, and we will be able to get through the winter.”

Thanks to your prayerful support, gardens are growing — and children and families will be nourished, even in the coldest and darkest of days. We are so grateful that, in addition to vegetable gardens, you are helping to plant seeds of hope in the lives of the most vulnerable! As autumn approaches, please pray that the vegetable harvest for these families will be plentiful and strategic in sustaining many lives. Thank you!

“For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.”  Isaiah 61:11
