Four Hearts in Romania Are Now Full!

We thank God that Lukas and Rian are finally thriving in a safe and loving family!

Just five and six years old, Lukas and Rian had a tumultuous upbringing. Their biological mother abandoned them in an institution. They were in and out of foster and institutional care for years, tragically experiencing neglect and abuse throughout that time. They were also considered “hard to place,” since Romanian law required siblings to be adopted together.

Meanwhile, Marco and Julia, a couple living nearby, had been trying to conceive for years, but were heartbroken after each negative test. Our AFFEO partners in Romania came alongside them and helped them learn more about adoption. After a time, Marco and Julia decided to adopt.

The couple began visiting Lukas and Rian every weekend. At first the boys were timid. They were also developmentally delayed due to the years of neglect and abuse: they didn’t know how to eat with a fork or use a toothbrush, and they could barely speak. Our partners provided a great resource program for Marco and Julia: parenting strategies, trauma-informed care, and support groups.

With patience, love, and continued support from our partners, the boys began to trust Julia and Marco. After a few months of weekend visits, they moved in with the couple permanently.

Today, they’re thriving together as a family! The boys have learned to love and trust their parents and are continuing to heal from their past trauma. Julia and Marco are deeply grateful for the assistance and community they found through our partner’s program. Won’t you pray with us as Julia, Marco, Lukas and Rian continue to adjust to each other? Please pray specifically that Lukas and Rian would completely heal and catch up developmentally, and that their parents would have supernatural stamina and patience in this process.

Thank you for your prayers! Lukas and Rian have found a loving, forever family — and Marco and Julia’s dream of becoming parents has come to fruition!
