In the nation of Ghana, approximately 6.9 million people are living in extreme poverty, struggling to survive on about $2 per day.
This difficult situation is driving some families to surrender their children to orphanages (which often leave children’s emotional, developmental, and physical needs unmet) — or even (mostly unknowingly) to child traffickers.
But AFFEO partners in Ghana are building a new, creative, church-based support system to help the neediest families. Sandra’s family is among them.
Sandra, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ghana, has eight children. Six of them are under the age of 10. One has cerebral palsy.
Sandra has been struggling to get by. But thanks to the prayers and gifts of people like you, she’s receiving help to expand her corn business so she can better care for her children.
Esther’s story is similar. She sells yams to support her four children. But her financial situation was desperate. She couldn’t provide for them all and was about to send two away until a local church helped her through this new initiative. And they didn’t just give her a hand-out — they helped her expand her business so she is now self-sustaining!
Sandra, Esther and hundreds of others need your continued prayers—efforts to help them like this new church-based support system are crucial for their survival as families. Please ask God to continue to provide so that families can stay together and not only survive but thrive! This paradigm of the Church being the source of these blessings — instead of the State — is having a powerful impact and is shining gospel light in very hard places. As of this update, through 16 churches, 246 orphans and vulnerable children from 140 families are finding help and hope … and the effort is just getting started!
Your prayers for Sandra, Esther and others are making a difference and can tip the balance in their favor. Thank you for praying for these vulnerable dear ones as God holds them in the palm of His hand and longs to provide for them in every way—spiritually, emotionally and physically.
