Celebrating Micala Siler

Please join us this month as we celebrate the extraordinary life of Micala Siler, AFFEO’s founding Executive Director. It is because of Micala’s heart, vision, and leadership that thousands of vulnerable children have found safety and stability in loving families.

In the early 2000’s, a group of Micala’s friends were in Ukraine and witnessed the tragedy of children being sent to orphanages and separated from their loving families. They realized this was largely due to poverty, not the loss of parents!

Sharing a firm belief that children belong in families, not on the street or even in institutions, they knew they had to do something about it. So, in 2008, Micala and these young adults pulled up their sleeves and got to work. They built roofs, outhouses, and provided heaters for crisis families in Ukraine and Russia. Children were being kept in their loving families because of this work! They also assisted families through the adoption process. A Family for Every Orphan began.

Under Micala’s leadership, A Family for Every Orphan quickly expanded and began targeting the root causes of orphanhood and institutionalization. Micala’s vision for a world without orphans and sense of urgency to change the way orphans were being cared for ignited a passion in other leaders around the world. This resulted in the genesis of many orphan and family-based care focused alliances.

Today, A Family for Every Orphan continues to address the root causes that are sending children into orphanages and the broken system that is keeping them there. We aim to see children remain in, reunite with, or regain a family! COVID, the war in Ukraine, and global inflation have underscored the relevancy of this work more than ever.

Micala’s heart and passion to see children in families lives on. Her core belief that all children deserve a safe and loving family started our work, and carries on in everything we do.

We thank God for the incredible work and life of Micala Siler, for the vision and calling He gave her which she pursued with passion – a passion that led to tens of thousands of children being raised in safe and loving families today!

At the request of Micala’s family, a Memorial Fund is set up in her name. You can continue Micala’s legacy of caring for orphans and vulnerable children by giving here.
