Most of us in the West don’t worry about something as simple as shoes for our school-aged children to hold our families together. But in a village in Ghana, if even basic needs like shoes or a school uniform aren’t provided by families, children are at greater risk of being separated from the people who love them most.
Families in this Ghanaian village are doing everything they can to provide for their children, but resources are stretched thin and many families are on the edge.
Enam is a young girl who belongs to one such family and attends an overcrowded public school in this village. On Saturdays, she walks to a small gathering hosted by an AFFEO local partner — a safe, welcoming space where children receive tutoring, encouragement, and a warm meal.
As teachers at this gathering place began to get to know the children, they noticed that many children arrived in shoes that were falling apart — or had none at all. Some lacked school bags or basic supplies. The teachers made these needs known to AFFEO and AFFEO, in turn made these needs known to people like you.
Through God’s people who heard about these needs, 80 children — including Enam — received brand-new shoes this past spring. For Enam, and children like her, this provision meant protection, confidence, and dignity. Most of all, it reminded Enam and the other children that they are not forgotten — that God sees them and provides for them.
Praise God with us that He lifted a burden from Enam’s family’s shoulders — and from the shoulders of the other families. Please pray that these children will now be able to concentrate on their studies and become all God wants them to be! And thank God with us that this provision helped the families of these 80 children remain together, where they belong.
