Anna Mae displays her quilted pot holdersWhen Anna Mae heard that her daughter and son-in-law might have the opportunity to travel to Russia and Ukraine with A Family for Every Orphan three years ago, she wanted to contribute something for the orphans that they would be visiting. She had recently been reflecting on the story of Moses. As Moses reluctantly accepted God’s charge to return to Egypt to free the Israelites, God posed the question to him, “what is in your hand?” Anna Mae found herself inspired by this story and felt compelled to ask herself, “what can my hands to do help these children?”
A talented quilter, she decided to make and send quilts to give to orphans. However, Anna Mae quickly realized that it would be very costly and inefficient to send the quilts to Russia and Ukraine. She opted instead to sell her work and donate the proceeds to A Family for Every Orphan. Over the Christmas holiday, she made an impressive four quilts and sold three of them. Then she switched to a quicker and easier project: quilted pot holders.
Anna Mae brought her work to the school where she teaches 5th grade. She also sold them in the nursery at her church. The demand for her quilted items soon (happily!) became overwhelming. “I just couldn’t keep up!” she exclaimed.
In just a few months, Anna Mae had raised over $3,000 to help orphans by selling her projects!!
Over the years, she has continued to use her talents to raise THOUSANDS of dollars to support and share our vision to help orphans find loving Christian families in their home countries with anyone who will listen.
Grace has dedicated a page on her business website to raise funds and awareness for orphans!“The Lord just laid it on my heart to help out in a way that I could,” she said.
Anna Mae's friend Grace Park, owner of Enchanted Quilting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has recently joined the effort by dedicating a special page on her business website to sell Anna Mae's quilts to help raise funds for orphans.
We are so encouraged by these endeavors, and the stories of others who have come up with creative ways to invest in the cause of A Family for Every Orphan.
Thank you, Anna Mae and Grace!!
